It would help if you had "make" and an editor. Then you'd have a compiler
of "known" performance.

Are you using the right shell? THAT is in the docs, too. I use bash, with
a symbolic like to sh so I can use regular shell scripts. BTW, zsh is in
the GCC directory for a reason (hint, hint). :-)
