There is a tool called 'xdtm' (for X Desktop Manager, I believe). It is
modelled after the MacIntosh desktop. I'm not sure it will run under Linux
(haven't tried to compile it yet), but I've used in on a Sun.
You could give a try. The latest version is 2.5.
