Subject: I've done it! <BAH HAHAHA>

At this moment, in the deep depths of my basement, a miracle is occuring!
This news post is being typed into TIN, processed by cnews, and sent out by
Taylor UUCP. All this is being done by a lowly 16 Mhz 80386(no DX or SX,
this is too old) with 5 Meg of RAM(It's also wierd, ok?) and a whole bunch
of Hard drives.(2 RLL @ 86 Meg each and 2 SCSI @ 40 Meg each)

My system consists of:
SLS 0.98pl1 Very nice package! I've installed it on 3 machines so far..
Mailpak 1.3 Also nicely done. (I got this because of confusion on my
part and lack of docs on this stuff in SLS)
Cnews May 92 This seems to be the performance release. I just got the
newest one. This caused a few problems, but not too bad.
Tin 1.1 pl4 This went very well, if I recall.
smail 3.1.28 This was a pain in the A**!<sigh> I'd get a small problem
somewhere in the build, I'd change something small in the
linux OS file, and the whole thing would start over, taking
a Very long time. But, it works fine..
getty_ps 2.03 Not really needed for this stuff, but now I can have people
feed off of me. The lock files seems to work fine, getty
doesn't interfere with uucp(or minicom) and neither of them
                seems to bother getty.

Words of wisdom:(from me?!? HA!)

Watch your permissions!(and who owns them) This can be a real b*tch.
One or 2 files with wrong permissions/ownership can cause problems that
can't be found easy.

Be sure you're su'd as you news admin ID when adding newsgroups etc. See
above.

Be sure the Permissions file in usr/spool/uucp allows whoever you're getting
news from to run rnews. This had my incoming news vanishing into the bit
bucket.

If something strange is happening to local posts, try running postnews(part
of cnews). My local posts were also heading for the bit bucket, but tin
didn't seem to think anything was wrong. When I ran postnews, it complained
about some 'permission denies'. I chmoded the files and local posts got all
better.

If you try to use the May 92 cnews(not the one in newspak), there's a
problem in the doexplode script. The end result is that mail won't batch
properly. Let me know if you want the answer to this one..

I think I've run out of stuff to say...
A very BIG thianks to Linus, Peter, Ed, H.J., and hundreds of other Linuxers
out there for this Great OS!
