To set up my timezone, I did
cd /usr/lib/zoneinfo
cp Australia/Victoria localtime
ln -s localtime posixrules
The problem is that if I don't set the TZ environment variable, the system
reports my current time zone as "EST" instead of "EDT".
There are easy ways to work around the problem (eg. setting TZ=EST14EDT
seems to work), but I wondered if anyone new the actual cause of the
problem.
