I installed Linux using MCC-Interim disks in July w/o any problem. Now one
of my friend asked me to send complete Linux disks to him so that he can
install Linux easily. There are now several versions of installation
disks around: SLS, HJ's,... As a frequent c.o.l readers, I found that there
are some problems in SLS installation procedure (or problems after
installation) and also HJ's stuffs always got some incomplete script
problems (this happened in the GCC 2.2.2d and Jump 4.1 distribution, I have
to end up with MCC-interim's GCC disks or installed them manually).
Now I've prepared for my friend a set of disks base on MCC-interim 0.97 p2.
I will tell him to install basic Linux using MCC's boot and util disks,
then a 3rd disks includes my 0.98 image and GCC 2.2.2d share libraries in
/lib. This way he will have a complete set of GCC shared libraries and a
new 0.98p1 kernel. I then prepare HJ's current GCC files from tsx-11's
.../packages/GCC/gccdisk and ../libdisk directories (BTW, files in these
two directories are NOT complete GCC JUMP 4.1 distribution: the /usr/lib
/shlib/{jump,nojump} stuffs are missing).
Is there another easy way to help your friends install a good Linux system
w/o these troubles? Is anyone out there install his/her system using
packages other than MCC-interim w/o any complaint?
Any suggestion is appreciated.
