From: bhenning@wimsey.bc.ca (Bill Henning) Subject: ST296 & ST01 & SLS & HELP! Date: Mon, 26 Oct 1992 02:00:35 GMT
Hello. I am trying to get Linux to recognize an ST01 to which I hooked up
an ST296... I get 'read sense failed' i.e. it could not read the capacity,
and the SLS install disk (a1) hangs on SCSI2....
The drive is set for ID 1, and the ST01 is the only host adapter in the
system (386/25,387,65Mb RLL x 2, ST01, ST296)
While I am posting, does anyone know the jumper settings on the ST01?
There are none installed on the one I borrowed. The ST296 also has
four jumpers, and there was a jumper installed towards the middle of
the drive. I added a jumper to the outside, which changed the drive
ID to 1, so I suspect that the four jumpers on the drive are
???? BIT4 BIT2 BIT1

unknown scsi address
If it helps, DOS does not find the ST296 either (I just bought the drive
at a computer swap meet, I hope it's good...)
I will probably try the drive with my Amiga next to check it out,
if it does not work I hope the 30 day warranty will be honored...
Thank you in advance,
Bill
