Well, folks, I'm still putting together the pieces of a complete BBS
setup under Linux. A couple of all-night hacking sessions (actually,
I think I fell asleep last night around 5:00 am) and I've got most of
the pieces in place:
- C-news (with the performance patches)
- trn 2.2
- BinkleyTerm 3.02.3 for Unix
- Pirate BBS 1.9
- HDB UUCP (from Ed's mailpak-1.3)
I'm still having a few problems, though. Perhaps some gurus would
help me out?
- The version of Pirate BBS (from sunsite:/pub/Linux/Incoming/pbbs-1.9.tar.Z)
compiled right out of the box, but it coredumps anytime I try to use
the (S)elect command from the main menu. Could whoever uploaded it
get in contact with me so I can figure out what I'm doing wrong?
Also, are there any docs for this thing? I may give ix/Mbox a shot
instead.
- Are there any C-news or UUCP gurus out there? Both packages are so big
that I'm completely lost. Everything compiled but I'm not sure
all of it works.
Assuming I get everything working, I will be uploading the first
Fidopak sometime before Thanksgiving break. This will most likely
be a binary-only distribution, as my /usr/src directory is such
a mess I can't even think about cdiff's. :( On a related note:
anyone wanna help beta-test? How about some of the guys gating
the LINUX echo?
I must say I'm happy to be back under Linux. I was getting tired
of watching MS-Windows lock up my machine. All together now:
"MS-DOS! Run away! Run away!"
ObLinus: Linus Torvalds is indeed a god of the programming world.
I don't care what Tanenbaum says. Linux is the coolest
thing to come along since 8-inch floppy drives.
