I disagree entirely. c.o.l.announce _needs_ to be moderated, otherwise
there is almost no possibility to keep the inevitable discussions out of
the group. If you think that everybody will either put a proper
followup-to to their announcements, or edit the newsgroups header for
their followups, you'd better take a look at alt.sources. It doesn't
work there and it ain't gonna work here.
In addition to putting proper newsgroups- and followup-to headers, the
moderator could (if he has the tim) add keywords such as "alpha",
"beta", "released version", "patch", "source", "binary", "important
bugfix", etc.
We do need a moderator volunteer, but that shouldn't be too hard, at
least if we don't make the job too hard.
