Subject: smaller executables as a function of libraries
Date: 23 Oct 1992 03:38:47 GMT

I've installed all of the new GCC and the X libs. This gives me
/lib, /usr/lib/gcc-lib/i386-linux/2.2.2d with sub-dirs,
and /usr/X386/lib.

To get some things to compile, I had to make links in the above
2.2.2d dir to all the libX*.a files in /usr/X386/lib.
Unfortunately, this makes LARGE executables.
xcolormap comes out around 300k and dclock over 500k.

what do i need to do to make smaller files????? I'm not too
up on the concept of shared and static and jump libraries.

also, what do I have to do with the widgets in /usr/X386/lib/X11
so that gcc can find them???

Thanx in advance my friends.
