Well, I started of with an 8 meg partition. That had a compiler and
precious little else. :) Think about 3 megs for utils, about 5 for the
compiler, about 13-14 for x-windows. Add at least 2 for temporary files.
Add about 2-3 megs for any major packages (ghostscript, TeX etc)

Linux is a fully multi-user O/S. You can run multiple users.

The 'EGAc' message is printed by the kernel simply to indicate that it
worked out your video card was at least EGA and that it has colour.
It will offer to let your use any VGA or SVGA text modes you have
(supports a LOT of cards). X-windows is a slightly different matter.
