Thank you for your very valuable help! I've purchased an AST 4 port clone
from Altex Electronics (San Antonio, TX 1-800/531-5369) for $75. I purchased
some NS16550AFN chips (actually, my electronics distributor said that they
have been replaced with part # PC16550CN, have you guys heard of this?) for
about $9 apiece and I'm off and installing.
