Odd. I'm in charge of the mtools instalation at UNLV, and we don't have either
of these problems. Any user can mwrite, mread, etc. I know nothing special was
done to mtools, maybe it's the 'protection' given to /dev/rdf0.
I can write a full disk in a minute or two, as well. Try mtools. In fact,
I plan on getting mtools working on my linux machine, just so I don't have
to mess with tar anymore :-)
