Yes! It can. I routinely transfer data between a SUN Sparc and my linux machine
by tarring onto 3.5" floppies.

I have also transferred data using the DOS file system capability of the 3.5"
drive on the SUN. This method is an order of magnitude slower than tarring as
the SUN's read/write to DOS floppies is very slow (nearly 1/2 hour for one full
floppy).
