I think the xtrek the original poster was talking about is not the
client-y netrek. I've ported a galaxy netrek client for linux, and
yes, UDP works well in 0.8.1 at least. You can find the blessed linux
binary on theory.cs.mankato.msus.edu:pub/incoming or
pittslug.sug.org:incoming.
