Personally, I have no objection to keeping one Linux newsgroup. However, I
*do* have a problem when I get email (albeit polite email) requesting that I
limit my posts to Linux-specific topics. If we have multiple newsgroups,
those folks won't be upset to see articles like this.
I appreciate what the Linux gurus have to say. However, splitting
newsgroups for other systems/os's has been successful in the past,
and I see no reason why it should fail here.
I think it is reasonable to request that all articles posted to
comp.os.linux be restricted to Linux-specific topics.
Whether or not we split the newsgroup is irrelevant. If you're talking
about how fanatical Mac and Amiga users, then it doesn't belong under
comp.os.linux, whether or not we split the newsgroup or not. It's all a
matter of being polite and courteous. If people don't have the wit to
figure out whether or not an obviously non-Linux related posting should
go in comp.os.linux or not, how will adding 5 or 6 new groups help?
