Subject: Busmouse won't work under 0.98

I just installed 0.98, and it won't detect my microsoft compatible bus
mouse. I was planning on using Xwindows, but for obvious reasons X
aborts if it can't find a mouse.
I installed using Hlu's bootable rootdisk, 5.25 size. I've ftp'd all
the utilities I need. (I hope) I've also ftp'd the source for 0.98,
unfortunately I don't have a compiler (yes, I'm a bit of a newbie.
Where can I get one for Linux?) so it does me no good to have the
source.
Does the bootable rootdisk not include the busmouse detection routines??
if so how do I fix this...
