From: donbon@gw.neuronet.pitt.edu (Don Bonaddio) Subject: cannot execute binary file and .. Date: 2 Oct 1992 00:16:35 GMT
I recently installed .97 linux on a 50M partition of my 200M HD
With the two images (boot and root) from tsx-11.
Install went fine.
NOW I want to add some stuff like emacs, kermit, tex, ...
So, I downloaded the binaries to a unix host at work and then ftp'd
them to a pc on our net, then copied them to a floppy.
- When I mount the disk from my pc at home 'mount -t msdos /dev/fd0 /mnt'
I can see the files .
_ I copy them to the linux partition 'cp /mnt/kertar.z ker.tar.Z'
When I run uncompress it dumps core.
This problem is only with binaries.
I had a tar.Z of ascii's and it worked.(emacs.tar.Z, REAMDE,diffs,...)
I also tried the mcc-interim.
When I tried running the root_install from the util disk(2) it said.
'cannot execute binary file'
