While I think X under Linux is neat, and I use it all the time,
Xfree86 on an ET4000 does not have the sort of performance I think is
appropriate for a real X terminal. I think you need a card with a
blitter (and which is supported by Xfree86), at the very least. If
you want to recycle some existing hardware for use as as X terminals,
that's a fine idea. But it's not a configuration I would do by
choice.
