Subject: Getting X to work with MS Bus Mouse
Date: Sat, 28 Nov 1992 07:22:13 GMT

I'm trying to get the XFree 1.1 stuff with the X11 S3 0.2b server to
work with my Microsoft bus mouse (Linux 0.98 pl5).

I tried

Microsoft "/dev/bm"
Emulate3Buttons

and at first achieved absolutely nothing - I then changed the major
minor nodes of /dev/bm from 10 0 to 10 2. I now get a mouse pointer
that stays pretty much in the upper left corner of the screen with very
shrt excursions down or across the screen before immediately jumping
back to the top left corner again.

The FAQ's and Xconfig docs are not clear and sometimes contradictory.

I was originally getting messages at boot time telling me that the
msmouse, Logitech bus mouse, and ati mouse were alldetected and their
drivers were installed. I commented out their minor nodes from
/usr/include/linux/mouse.h and recompiled. That got rid of the messages
but the problem remains. I imagine you control what driver you use
strictly on the basis of the mouse device driver's minor node.

Anybody got any ideas? Thanks in advance.
