The S3 chipset will run circles around the et4000. For instance,
My XS3-0.3-exp which has support for the 801 will generate about
60k xstones. XFree86's et4000 generates about 8k xstones.
The difference in real life use is dramatic to put it mildly.
Look around in Linux for XS3
