Linus has an IDE drive, so he didn't debug the error detection stuff in the
kernel. I, too, don't have a perfect drive, and this gives me fits. I
finally re-low-leveled the drive the other day, and fed the bad blocks to
mkefs. Now everything works fine - until the next time I get a bad sector.
I sure wish that someone would fix this in the kernel. I have stared at the
code until I'm blind, but either the code is too much like spaghetti or I'm some
sort of idiot - I can't for the life of me see where the error codes are
supposed to be passed up to the read call. Help!
