Bull, Plenty of folks I know *STILL* run "park" before they shut off
their machines, because someone told them to long, long, ago, Even
though their drives autopark.

The trick is a simple command (like halt) and Automagic fsck on boot if
there was a bad shutdown. Also avoid wierd messages during fsck, a
simple:

Halt was not run, checking hard disk for errors.

with

Correcting file blah.
Fixing directory bleh.

etc.

Make the other messages available with a flag (-old or -v or something).
Let's face it, joe user AIN't gonna be able to make a reconnect
decsision anyway. Even dos does similar stuff with chkdsk /f. There
really is NOT a lot of difference, and I've had a corrupt dos
filesystem before too.
