I do not know if this helps, but I have a Gateway 2000 486-DX,
I think the BIOS is from Phoenix, but Ctrl-alt-del did not work.
I do not know the technical reason, but if I disabled the BIOS
shadowing in the CMOS setup it started working perfectly.
(BIOS shadowing copies the contents of the ROM BIOS to RAM for faster
access).
I did that. As Linux does not use the BIOS it does not make any difference.
In fact this gave me more than 100kb more of extended memory
(as reported by the startup memory check and by Linux itself).
Again, there is a technical reason for that, but I do not remember...
for DOS, things (should) go slower, but it will depend on the
applications. As I use Linux (almost) all the time...
