Well for starters, A2 should not be compressed.
a1 is compressed, but if you uncompress it, it should be
the same size as a2 like 1.2 MB. (At least it was for pl1.)

rawrite both files (uncompressed) to the disks.
The "utilities" disk is indeed A2 as you suspected.

after these both boot, then you can do an fdisk

mkfs, and then finally a doinstall /dev/hd??
