I just made today bash 1.10 with 8 bit patches and it seems to work
fine. The reason why I didn't compile version 1.12 is that there are
(to my knowledge) no 8 bit patches for bashes newer than 1.10. I have
used this patched 1.10 ever since 1.10 arrived (about a year?) in
non-linux machines and it seems quite stable.
I also compiled the rc shell with the patched GNU readline.
I'll put these binaries in nic.funet.fi tomorrow.
A clarification for newbies: an 8-bit clean shell allows you to type
in e.g. all iso-8859-1 characters, and thus allows you to use your
national alphabet in the shell.
