Subject: ANNOUNCE: minor Linux TeX update
Date: 17 Nov 1992 20:26:21 GMT

i've made a slight update to the TeX package in SLS:

  1) /pub/linux/SLS/t1/texman.taz - mostly std Unix manpages now
  2) /pub/linux/SLS/t1/texbin.taz

      a) mf binary now defaults to reading /usr/TeX/lib/mf/macros
            AND its subdirectories
      b) xdvi is now Karl Berry's version..the main change from
Paul Volta's src is that it can do subdirectory searches.
It uses std Tex environmentals if u dont like the default
            (/usr/Tex/lib/tex/fonts//)
      c) texbin.taz has a /usr/X386/bin/xdvi which is just a symlink
            to /usr/TeX/bin/xdvi

hopefully, these changes will fix the problems people have had from
 1) not reading the docs or 2) having XDVIFONTS erroneously set from
somewhere (the TeX package, ie t1-t5 in the SLS package, never sets it)

mf and xdvi compiled with gcc 2.2.2d7 , c libs 4.1 and x libs 2.1
xdvi tested on a file with 401 fonts on my system (kernel 0.98p5)
