Or, taking a tip from Michael Haardt, load Minix (if you have it) and use
readall to make a list of all bad blocks.

Readall, or something similar could be used in Linux, except that in Minix
disk seek failures are handled MUCH more gracefully. No grinding to track
zero every 15 seconds...
