No, you aren't dead. Get Lu's rootdisk. You can boot that and then mount
your harddisk and then copy the inittab from the root disk to your etc
directory. Modify it for your system. halt and reboot, and you should be
back in business.

Lu's rootdisk is a GREAT thing to have for those 'OMIGAWD' type mistakes.
