From: st1lt@jane.uh.edu (Neumann, Tony) Subject: Linux doesn't boot!! Date: Sat, 23 May 1992 00:57:00 GMT
Hi netters,
Perhaps this is a FAQ, although I have searched most of the FAQ files
and have not found the answer, Linux tries to boot and hangs on my system.
I have gotten the bootimage-0.96 & rootimage-0.95c from tsx-11.mit.edu,
before getting the files I set the transfer method to binary. What I get
when I try to boot from my 3.5 floppy is:
general information about my system, memory size, hard disk type, floppy types,
ect., then I get |> Lo
The floppy drive stops spinning and nothing happens. Just for kicks I down
loaded the bootimage-0.12, bootimage-0.95, bootimage-0.95c+; after having
rawritten each to a floppy and tried to boot from each with the same
results.
My system configuration is:
386sx
intel chip set
AMI bios (date: 04/20/90)
2 meg ram
40 meg IDE hd (Western Digital)
5.25 & 3.5 floppies
Any and all ideas, comments shall be greatly received. Please e-mail to me
at st1lt@jetson.uh.edu . I am kind of in a bind because my acount on the
university's unix box is about to expire, without it I won't be able to
uncompress / untar any of the files, soooo I need Linux running (at least
on floppy).
thanks,
