I've had a look at linux, and so far, my impression I get, is
that it is a very good product. However, X is causing me a
couple of headaches.

If anyone out there, has the video timings and clocks for
a Tseng Labs 4031 vga card with the ET4000 chipset, I would
be grateful for any information on getting these right. I have
off this card, an Acer 33 monitor. I also currently have the
option of running an Acer 33D monitor as well, but I only have
the manual for the former.

I've tried using the documentation that was given in the X
distribution file, but to no avail. The only thing which seems
to work correctly, is the keyboard, and this only through an
evil hack (I made a link for tty0 to tty1, mknod didn't like me
for some reason).

After starting X, the screen clears, and brings up a pattern.
The top 1/3 of the screen is basically solid white, while the lower
2/3 is covered in vertical stripes. These stripes don't seem to
contain anything useful, but suggest that the window, or whatever
else is there, is scrolling as it should do.

Any help what so ever on this, would be greatly appreciated. The
results that come out of this, will probably determine whether
or not, I keep using linux in the future, and whether, people I
know, will even look at it.
