From: john@clinicom.UUCP (John Hensley) Subject: Problems with mcc-interim 0.95c+ shoelace and gids Date: 21 May 1992 06:27:58 GMT
If anyone else has posted this problem, I apologize, but I've just recently
started with Linux and haven't seen any posts about this in the last few days.
I'm having no luck getting shoelace to boot my Linux partition. I'm working
from the mcc-interim package, version 0.95c+. The machine boots, I press 1
at the shoelace menu, and nothing happens. Well, the cursor moves down and
to the left a little, but nothing *useful* happens. :)
I've played around with the permissions on /shoelace and /etc/Image, hoping
that just maybe it was that simple, but no luck. (Yes, /etc/Image was created
with rdev to point to /dev/hda1.)
The hardware is a generic 386/40 with a 120M Conner IDE drive, partitioned
like this:
==========================================================================
Disk /dev/hda: 8 heads, 39 sectors, 762 cylinders
Device Boot Begin Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/hda1 * 1 1 131070 65535 81 Linux/MINIX
/dev/hda2 131071 131071 139262 4096 82 Linux swap
/dev/hda3 139464 139464 237431 48984 6 DOS 16-bit >=32M
==========================================================================
There is another glitch, unrelated to the above: any file I create has the
right group ID initially, but if I look at it later, its GID is 44. There
is no group 44 on my system. Anyone else seen that?
Thanks a lot,
John
