I'm very new (circa 1 week) to the Unix OS and have Linux running on
my 386sx 20 (2 MB + w/4 MB swap file). Due to the 2 MB RAM limitation I
couldn't use the MCC release and installed the 0.95c+ rootimage. Once I
had the system running I used the MCC releases comp.image and comp2.image
install files to install GCC 2.1. Now my questions:

1) When I trie to run kermit everything appears fine but the dial command
won't work (times out) and if I 'connect' and issue the AT commands directly
they work (I can here the modem dial) but I don't get a screen display of
the incomming (or outgoing for that matter) characters.

2) All my attempts to complie "Hello world." result in a segmentation
error. When I attempt to compile the port : ps095c+ it results in a
memory fault; However, the compilation process appears to abort.

3) I am using microEMACS and have had no trouble getting it to run. How
do I tell it where I have the *.cmd files located? I don't have any idea
how to set and/or use environmental variables.

4) What's the secret to allow users access to files? I would like to
keep some commands restricted to root but how, for example, can I fix
it so users can use mtools? I followed the example in passwd and set
the group and user numbers to 8 and 3 (as shown for ast).

I hope I got most of the details right in my questions. I have to
keep reverting to DOS to access kermit for communications and by the
time I've made the switch my memory has gone fuzzy.

Thanks for any help. BTW I have read the FAQ and Chuck Boyer's guide
which is why I've gotten as far as I have. Kudo's to all who have
devoted their time to this effort.
