I run X-windows on a sun with only 4M ram and it runs quite happily.
Quite fast enough for comfortable use. Granted the hardware on a sun is
better than a 386 but the 386 itself is a hell of a lot faster than the
68020 in my sun 3/60. I suspect the increase in cpu power will make X on
my pc quite a bit more usable than it is on my sun 3/60 and since my sun
3/60 is perfectly aadequate I don't see what all the fuss is about.
I suspect people will start shouting that sun's have better graphics
hardware. Granted this is true, but we were talking about memory and 4M
is plenty as far as I can see. (enough at least). It's not really valid
to compare the binary sizes but anyhow, the binaries on the sun take up
about 20M, with shared libs. Since we've got shared libs in linux I
suspect that the diskspace will be in the same area roughly. Of course
if you want to compile it then that's a different matter....
