Whoops...if I'd been thinking, I wouldn't have had to post twice. The
file was in a VMS variable-length record format (not necessarily created
on VMS, but readable there). The two extra bytes were the record length
for the first record; then there are two more, and so on. Anyway, I
fixed the file and re-uploaded it as unarj.good.tar.Z.
Y'all should pay more attention to Mr. Jones in the future. :-)
