This is in response to my mail about my new hard-drive. I got it, and set it up
as hdb, and partitioned it, and made it a complete linux system. It was even
bootable. I then turned the system off, took out the temp. 40MB, and set the
jumpers make the new one drive hda. I then turned on the power, went into the
bios, and made it the default drive C:. Then..... No workey. :(......
Turns out that it ONLY works as the slave, and never the master(IDE, BTW)
YES, I have RTFM, but no difference.
My only recourse is to call seagate again when the weekend is over.
Oh, well, life was getting too good anyway. I think that I will make them
ship me the new drive, then when it works right, they can issue a pick-up
for the other one. I am not going to spend anymore money on this deal, and
I am not taking NO for an answer. Note though, I am quite happy with them,
as they cross-shipped this drive, when they had told me it might be a month
or more. Also, this was a refurbished drive, and may have only been tested
in slave mode. :)
Well, I have to complete my resume, so I have all the "proper" paperwork for
my new job. :)
Oh, THANKS to all the linux'ers, without who, linux would probably die, for
I used my experience with linux in my application, and the company was
rather impressed. (They also appreciate my internet savvy) ;) seems that the
year of college wasn't a TOTAL waste(I was on over 24 lists, and read easily as
many newsgroups, hence the poor results in the classroom. I was logged in
for as much as 12 hours at a time. ;))
well, later...
