Mine works well as a Mouse Systems -- use
mousesystems "/dev/ttys0" (or whatever tty it's on, naturally)
BaudRate 1200
# SampleRate 150
# Emulate3Buttons
and see if you have better luck. Make sure you have the switch on the mouse
set correctly, of course.
