I actually meant to post something that would hopefully answer this
type of question. I discovered a similar problem when I enabled
either bios and/or video shadow ram in my AMI bios for my DTK 386
motherboard.

I am not sure what the problem is, but because I haven't really heard
it discussed on this newsgroup it must be a relatively specific 'feature'
to the bios that I use.

I offer as a suggest to people that if they are having problems with
stability to try and turn off any extra enhancements (ie/shadow ram)
and reboot. This may increase the stability of your machine.

I have a 386/25 DTK mother board with AMI bios (not sure which one...
not by my machine right now)...but I do know enabling shadowram will
cause it to halt the boot before any devices are mounted during boot.
(I don't get the number of block of buffers, etc, printed out..)

Other than that it works incredibly well! :-))
