From: muralee@dcs.warwick.ac.uk (Muralee Pillai) Subject: (HELP!) Questions on ftp'ing the binaries and setting up .. Date: 7 Jun 1992 16:56:01 GMT
This may be a silly question but bear with me !
I have ftp'ed the boot and root images from nic.funet.fi and
I'm about to get the Linux binaries in the pub/OS/Linux/bin
subdirectory -- Question:
The machine I'm storing my ftp'ed files on is a Sun; I then
use a local pc terminal to transfer these files to DOS-format
disks so that I can load them onto my PC at home. Now when
I boot up and install the Linux boot and root images, how
will I be able to read the remaining files (the files I shall
collect from the bin directory on nic.fu..) which are still
on *DOS-format* disks ?
Can Linux read these disks ?
Assuming I am able to transfer these files, is there a tar
command under Linux so that I can "untar" the files, or
should I do this on my unix host before tranfering.
Please e-mail me direct.
Hope someone can help
Many Thanks,
Muralee (muralee@dcs.warwick.ac.uk)
