I ran into this problem myself when I upgraded to all new hardware
(a 486 at last!). After much fiddling I managed to figure out the
dang 7-bit protocol my new mouse was using and modified mouse_get.c
in the MGR distribution to handle it. All you need to do is compile
with -DMOUSEMAN; if MOUSEMAN is undefined you get the regular protocol.
Oh - one more thing: you also need to tweak set_mode.c so that the
mouse serial port runs at 1200 baud _7_ bits.
I'll wrap up the two patches relative to the _Minix_ mgr version on
maccs.dcss.mcmaster.ca (I haven't tried Linux for various odd reasons),
and will put it in ~ftp/minix/MGR/mouseman.tar.Z on maccs. I don't
imagine the code in mouse_get.c or set_mode.c has changed a whole
lot in the port from Minix to Linux; in any event this should help.
Let me know if you find it useful. (maccs is 130.113.1.1, for
those who need the numbers).
Cheers,
Dan McCrackin
