AAAAAUUUUUUUGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHH!!!!
Now that we have that unpleasantness out of the way...
I got a copy of boot-us and root-us from the site in .uk and I also got .96a
and .95a from tex. My problems are as follows:
When I use the tex version, it loads and then when it asks me to press any key
to start the thing, it reboots. I retried it countless number of times, no
dice.
That's when i decided to get the mcc- version (what's mcc stand for anyway?).
That one booted fine... But (there always is one) I couldn't do a thing with
it: no ls, rm, or anything of that kind. According to what I read, I should
have gotten a login. All I got was the root prompt (#) and that's it. I can
move around and figure out what directory I'm in (using pwd) but nothing else
works.
What am I supposed to do to get Linux to work? Damn, and I thought I knew
something about Unix...
What is the LATEST version that is known to work and where can I find it?
I have a 486DX-33 w/ 4MB RAM, 200 MB IDE HD. I'm booting off the floppy
(1.2MB) because I don't want to destroy everything until I'm sure I can get
Linux to work on my machine. Anyone out there able to help me? Puhleez!!
I'm close to desperate (sp?) and there's a bridge not too far away... :-)
P.S.: Is this the proper place to whine or should I use one of the mailing
lists instead?
P.P.S: I just remembered, when I rawrite rootimag or root-us:
1) It formats to 7 sectors instead of 13 (or 14). Is that normal?
2) I get an address mark not found error. What's that?
