I had the same problems of timeouts as well, using a 200mb maxtor drive
and ami (date?) bios. The problem only appeared when I used the 4th
partition also. So I repartitioned the disk so the 4th was dos and I
haven't had timeouts since. this is with .96c

I did get strange results recently when doing mtools stuff, so linux
must just not be good with the end of the disk. (the mtools problem has
been inconsistent)
