Subject: *Still* struggling...

Last Friday I downloaded the sources and patches, and compiled the Linux
0.96c pl2 kernel! Oddly, there were a couple warnings... but she still
compiled. So now my kernel recognizes my MicroSoft bus mouse...

Unfortunately though, X386 *still* won't work.

I have the xbase binaries, located properly. I've been supplied with a
working Xconfig'uration for my Paradise video card, and I changed its
mouse spec's to:

BusMouse "/dev/mouse"
  Emulate3Buttons

(Of course, I also mknod'd /dev/mouse in the prescribed manner...)

I've followed all the INSTALLation instructions that came with the
xbase binaries... but when I type "startx" it works only as far as
the point where you're supposed to press the mouse button. Nothing
moves when I move my mouse, and there's no reaction to pressing the
button... (and yes, I waited a bit like the INSTALL notes said.)

Does anyone have any idea what I might be missing?
