Just a thought:
Don't buy a monitor strictly on the basis of a review in a PC-focused magazine.
At the very least, look at reviews in the Mac magazines (MacUser's a good
place to start); they've been dealing with hi-res, 24-bit color for quite
some time now, and they do mention the moire' effects, and other neat
"features" like that. There are other good sources for reviews of hi-res
color monitors; unfortunately, I can't think of any off the top of my
head...
(BTW--that doesn't mean don't use the PC-mag reviews--it just means get a
second opinion...)
