That's the very thing I had in mind for my next change in this area.
Though, you still want the uninformed user to at least be told what kind
of video card he needs to choose from (some of the clones out there aren't
very good at identifying themselves, others aren't very good at passing
the tests or supporting the modes they should!).

Depends on how fast I can get myself motivated again in this area. I'd rather
be spending my time understanding the S3 video chip, and what needs to be done
to X386 to get it to work. I'm hoping to use the high level registers on the
chip to do most of the work!
