Subject: want to run linux with X11 on 386sx laptop, anyone doing this?
Date: Mon, 20 Jul 1992 23:23:17 GMT

Hi,

I want to have a cheap portable X capable unix system and the prime
contender seems to be linux on a 386sx VGA laptop. I have read much of the
stuff on X and linux in this newsgroup and it seems a bit dicey to get this
to work. Am I correct in assuming that others would be interested (as am I)
in having a list of laptops on which this has been made to work?

If those of you with experience out there will send me some e-mail, I will
compile a list of successful installations. From all the talk on X and video
cards, it seems that one cannot be sure that X with linux will work on a
given machine (particularly laptops cause they have their own video pre-
installed) unless someone has made it work already.

If such info already exists, my humble apologies and could someone direct
me to it. I've already read a FAQ that I snatched from (sorry i can't remember
where) ?? so I hope I'm not wasting bandwidth here.

thanks, alex

ps please include RAM, HD sizes and model #s with your info.
