From: callison@uokmax.ecn.uoknor.edu (James P. Callison) Subject: Linux UUCP, smail3, and rn... Date: Tue, 14 Jul 1992 23:06:28 GMT
I'm trying to get UUCP working on my linux box (8M RAM, 386DX33, 130M IDE,
ATI SVGA Northgate Slimline 333), and I need some HELP! :-)
I got the binaries from tsx-11, but, no docs, no help, no luck. Then, I
got the source from tsx-11, and they compiled OK, and installed OK. But
it still doesn't work. Can somebody tell me which files need to be where,
which directories should be where, and how I should have the config
files set up?
Also...I tried to compile smail (from the UUCP source archive), but it said
"compilation of header file requested" and didn't compile anything (running
from the smail Makefile). I'm using gcc 2.2.2, Linux 0.96c, and compiling
it in the same directory as I compiled the UUCP stuff.
Lastly, I got rn from ftp.uu.net, and I was wondering what files I need
to compile a mailer and a newsreader (Obviously, rn is the reader, but
every question I get to in the configure utility wants something I have
no idea of where to find...like inews). I've seen that at least a few people
have rn running, so how didja get it running?
BTW- I'm a FORTRAN programmer, with a _very_ cursory knowledge of C, and an
even lower level of familiarity with assembly language...actually, I'm
not really a programmer at all--I just do what I need to get the job done...
(so I obviously _needed_ to start hacking in Linux, right? :-)
Any help would be appreciated...
