Taking that logic to the extreme dicates that we should have just ONE
newsgroup and just have everyone skip what they don't want!

I know that's now what you intended, but the traffic on this newsgroup
has grown enormously. Speaking as someone who only wants to monitor
a small segment of the traffic, I think splitting the newsgroup is a
great idea. I hate to sound presumptious, but I have to think it
is much easier for you people who want to monitor EVERYTHING to skip
over the relatively few crossposts than for people who only want to
monitor certain topics to skip over entire groups of messages.

I do agree that separating out the beginners is a bad idea though--
only because the people that could answer any questions that arise
there might not get answered because the right people aren't following
it. I also think Linux beginners probably have enough know-how on
the net to find the right newsgroup for their questions.
