Subject: problems with the kernel mathcode ?
Date: 14 Jul 1992 09:02:31 GMT

Hey all linuxer,

I spend nearly three day on fixing an problem with irit modelling program.
The program complies with out problem on linux and on a sun Sparcstation SLC.
But when running the program on linux it gives me the message "floatingpoint exception (core dumped)". On the sun SLC the same sourcecode with the same
makefile runs with out problems. So I think the problem is conected to the linux
eviroment. To find the "bug" I complied irit with the -g option, to use gdb 4.5.
With gdb I wasn`t able to find the bug, because the source line in witch gdb thinks the programs gets the exeption there is only an pointer operation, but no
floating point operation. The next try was to run the programm with stepi command.
Here the program runs as on the sun with out any problems (except very slow).
This behavior is true for linux 0.96bpl2 and 0.96cpl0.

Yesterday I complied the 0.96cpl1 kernel, and with this kernel the program
hang in all sitiations (without gdb, with gdb and stepi).

This leads me to the conclusion that the problem is conected to the kernel of
linux. Are there any ideas to fix the bug in the kernel, or did some have the same problem, as I do.

thank for your interrest and help ??
