Hi all,

        I'm trying to get away from the practise of logging in as root
but I find I cannot use su unless I make it suid.... Is this the correct
practise?

Sorry for more RAQ's (recently asked questions):

Can I fix termcap to retain the bold attribute...I'm using the one that
came with J.W.'s 0.96c rootdisk with 0.96b pl2 kernel (seagate scsi).

As previously noted: the keybindings for the keypad no longer work with
emacs so I tried to change them using C-q and saw that ,for instance,
the up key now returns ^[Ox instead of whatever it was...I modified
.emacs to reflect this but it doesn't work (this is called "CARGO CULT
PROGRAMMING"). What gives?

{begin $0.02 mode}

FS caching: let's give it a break... I work in a COSC lab at school and
at a repair shop... there is _NO_ way to protect weenies from themselves
whether they are using dos *nix or pick! I think the reason there were so
many strongly worded postings on this issue is because most Linux users
are either experienced or willing to expend the effort to become experi-
enced unix users. The suggestion of any "weenie proofing" is abhorent to
most of us.

BTW Before Linux came along I tried to get various dos kluges to do a
facsimile of multi-tasking...desqdrool slowed everything so wretchedly
that I could only make it bearable with hypercache. Under Linux there
really isn't a great deal of practical difference between my 16 ms IDE
drive and my 30 ms scsi drive...

{end $0.02 mode}
