I have yet to find a problem with doing it that way. I have JUST
installed (today) Linux 0.96c, GCC 2.2.2, X11v1.1 by rawriting the tar.z
files to diskette and just reading them off the way you mentioned.

X runs great. Now just need to figure out whats wrong with olvwm :< !
